ICYMI: Ellen from The Ask

March was an interesting month. It began with something I’ve never done before: I took a whole week off client sessions and used that time to catch up on some deep thinking, reading and planning. I even shared some of those insights in a newsletter, which I’ve linked below.

One of those decisions was to stop relying so much on AI for content creation. Since that decision, my LinkedIn impressions are up 84% compared to the month before!

I don’t obsess over these numbers. With the algorithm being so unreliable and the fact that impressions don’t pay the bills, but it was still an interesting experiment. I’ve also enjoyed writing this newsletter more in recent weeks, without the crutch of a robot dictating taste back to me in conversation.

March also involved running cohort two of Authority Letters, which has been very rewarding. I’m so excited to be editing another set of members’ Hero Pieces in the upcoming days (example Hero Pieces linked below, and you can enquire about upcoming cohorts here).

I also travelled to Mallorca in March, landed back in London yesterday and woken today realising it’s April. The fact we’ve done a quarter of the year already is a bit wild, right? Whenever I have those feelings of time slipping away it reminds me why I choose to double down on paying for support in the form of team and coaches. Much as I offer to my clients, this support holds me accountable to the grand visions and timelines I set for myself, not to mention the shared mental load that it provides.

April and Q2? I’ll be executing on some of those areas of the business I’ve been rethinking, and writing some of my own Hero Pieces!

March’s Newsletter Round Up

Everything I shared last month to catch up on ICYMI

1/ Business is a constant evolution. In this newsletter edition I shared the details of four things I’ve been rethinking that are happening behind the scenes of The Ask offers, systems and yep, use of AI. This one had a lot of kind replies like this one:

It’s easy to assume that being an authority means having certainty when in practice, it often looks like being willing to question what you thought you knew.

2/ An insights into how Authority gets built, in practice. Hear a client case study, Kate, who grew her Psychological Coaching business alongside her NHS work supporting patients across anxiety, phobias and illness recovery.

3/ If your thinking is the product - which is the case for many authority-led businesses I work with - then business can feel flimsy. Where does this business start? Where does it end? I shared why businesses can evade even the person in charge as to their whereabouts.

4/ From February, the most popular post was about why your client insights, depth and years of expertise don’t automatically translate to the online arena and secure the attention they deserve — and what to do about that.

Community Conversations

Highlights from The Ask clients & community

1/ Past Authority Letters member Hayley Dawson, shared her Hero Piece The smartest career move you can make is learning to work with people. She described Authority Letters as the most transformative thing that solidified her thinking, and landed her 57 waitlist sign ups for her Human Skills School cohort, which you can find details of and join the next one here.

2/ Another Hero Piece in the wild in March (which I hear led to an uptick in connections and visibility) out from Sarah Pritzl: Possibility is a Muscle Many High-Achievers Forget to Train. She writes beautifully about how ‘creative possibility’ is a muscle that when trained, unlocks endless opportunities those who dare to dream.

3/ Founder of BUILD networks for good, Selena Coles, is running the Network-Led Revenue Sprint in April for founders of social impact organisations ready to build predictable income outside of grant funding. Applications and details here if that sounds like you!

Support with your Authority led business

I work with founders whose ideas, judgement, and thinking are the product.

If you have been considering support but feel unsure where to begin, I created a short enquiry form to simplify the process.

How it works: Share a few details about your business and what you are working toward. I’ll reply with the support options and investment levels I believe will suit you best. If that feels aligned, we’ll schedule a chemistry call to explore working together.

Ellen from The Ask is brought to you by Ellen Donnelly, Founder of The Ask. Strategic business coaching & mentor to Authority Entrepreneurs ready to grow a profitable business in a way that feels true to them.
